This childhood nostalgic meal brings me back to simple days when Mom made an Italian version of sloppy joes and we just loved them.

Gather The Ingredients Needed to Make Venison Sloppy Joes
- venison ground: any ground meats can be used in this recipe however we adjusted some of the flavors to eliminate much of the wild game flavors you may adjust the seasonings to taste
- olive oil or vegetable oil: saute the vegetables in oil, this flavors the oil before adding the meat
- diced onion: brings lots of flavor to the meat you're using when carmelized by sauteing
- bell pepper diced and seeded: for those who prefer a spicier sloppy joe add a fresh chopped jalapeno pepper or another prefer
- garlic, minced: adds lots of flavor to the meat
- water or beer: we prefer to use beer however you can substitute water for non alcohol
- ketchup or tomato sauce: ketchup will bring much flavor with more sweetness whereas tomato sauce will be less sugar flavors
- brown sugar: use light or dark to decrease the acidic flavors
- yellow mustard: the vinegar in mustard will enhance all the flavors and again will cut down the sweetness
- chili powder: commonly made from red chili peppers enhances flavor and color
- Worcestershire sauce: tangy and adds depth in flavor to the venison or loose meat you're using
- salt and pepper to taste: this is a personal taste some like more salt than others, add this at the end to your own preferences
- cayenne pepper: heat is optional this will make a spicy sloppy joe
Substitutions and Other Ideas for a Gourmet Style Sloppy Joe:
- Ground turkey, chicken, hamburger, lamb, pork all can be substituted for venison
- Pour over garlic bread
- Pour over mashed potatoes or baking potatoes
- Add cooked rice for a fabulous side dish
- Additional vegetables celery, and sliced mushrooms can be added to this sauce
- Any kind of beans can be added to this sauce for a chili-style venison sauce

- venison is a drier meat make sure you grease the pan and add oil when cooking the meats and vegetables to add the extra moisture
- simmer for at least 35 minutes to thicken the sauce and get the meat infused with all the flavors from the seasonings
- always taste your food to add more or less salt, pepper, and even extra sauces for more flavor to your preference
- follow the same instructions for ground beef, turkey, pork, lamb, or whatever meat you're using
- hard rolls, hamburger buns, garlic bread, brioche buns, filled flat bread or pita bread, and tortilla wraps are all good choices for serving.

Traditional sloppy Joes meets venison in this delicious, a recipe perfect for a flavorful ground venison in less than 30 minutes.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds venison ground
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil or vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons diced onion
- 1 bell pepper diced and seeded
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 /2 cup water or bee
- 1 cup ketchup or tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon or more to taste of Worcestershire sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper for heat is optional
Instructions
- Saute the garlic, onion, and pepper in oil for 2 minutes.
- Add the venison to the skillet and stir with vegetables until nice and browned.
- Add the water or beer.
- Mix in ketchup or tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire, seasonings, then the salt, and pepper.to taste
- Simmer on low and cook until the mixture thickens.
- If too thicken add 1/2 or more water or beer.
- Serve piled high into hard rolls or hamburger rolls.
