Ground Beef Wellington

If you've always wanted to try making Beef Wellington, this is a good place to start and experiment using ground beef.

Ground Beef makes this economical while learning the art of making Wellington, and is a delicious burger wrapped in puff pastry, and truly a delicious meal.

We seasoned our ground beef the way we would make a great burger, however, you can adapt the recipe to your own taste as far as seasonings are concerned.

Burger Wellington Easy Steps on How To Make It!

  • preheat the oven and line two baking sheets
  • prepare the mushroom sauce and set aside
  • next is seasoning the ground beef (use our recipe provided or your favorite meatloaf recipe)
  • after mixing shapes into meatloaf shapes then place them on thawed frozen puff pastry
  • top with cheese
  • bake and serve with mushroom sauce

Ground Beef Wellington Mix-In and Substitutions

  • seasoned the ground beef mixed with your favorite meatloaf recipe
  • add chopped onion
  • add chopped hot or mild peppers
  • add cooked rice to the beef mixture (around 1/4 cup as a filler instead of breadcrumbs
  • substitute beef for turkey or ground chicken
  • for a quicker sauce use canned or bottled brown gravy and add canned sauteed mushrooms

Ground Beef Wellington

Ground beef wrapped in puff pastry is an economical way to make the popular Beef Wellington.We also included a delicious mushroom sauce to serve on top.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup half-and-half cream
  • 1 cup of sliced mushrooms
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic powder
  • 2 minced cloves of garlic
  • 1 tablespoon minced chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 3 tablespoons of Italian-flavored bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese grated
  • 8 thin slices of Swiss cheese ( 4 for each pastry loaf)
  • 1 package of frozen puff pastry thawed
  • optional: egg wash
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon minced onion and 1 tablespoon of bell pepper chopped fine

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and line two deep cookie sheets or baking dishes with parchment paper.
  2. Heat the butter in a medium-sized frypan and add the mushrooms, saute for around 3 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic for 2 more minutes.
  4. Stir in the flour and salt, pepper to taste.
  5. Add the half and half and simmer until it thickens around 2 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and cool.
  7. Note: this sauce is to be served over the Wellington and will need reheating if too thick add additional cream.
  8. In a large bowl, add the ground beef, bread crumbs, cheese, egg, granulated garlic, parsley, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper to taste, and onion with bell pepper if using.
  9. Shape into two oval meatloaf shapes.
  10. Unwrap the two pastry doughs and place them on the lined prepared baking sheets.
  11. Add each meatloaf to the center of each pastry dough.
  12. Top the meat with sliced cheese(4 thin slices to each loaf) and fold the pastry around then seal making the seam side down.
  13. Brush with egg wash and dried parsley flakes on top.
  14. Bake in the preheated oven for around 35 to 40 just until the flaky pastry is golden and crispy browned.
  15. Serve with reheated mushroom sauce.
