- Heat the pan first then add the oil.

Other Easy Chicken Sauces for Weeknight Meals
- teriyaki sauce with the addition of 1/2 cup crushed pineapple and a little brown sugar

Chicken Teriyaki
This is a homemade teriyaki sauce with chicken over rice and steamed vegetables. An easy throw-together quick weeknight meal.

Ingredients
- 2 Chicken boneless breasts sliced or 4 to 5 thighs cut sliced around 1/2 thick (or also cut into cubes if preferred)
- 1/2 cup seasoned flour (1 teaspoon dried herbs, 1 teaspoon granulated garlic powder, 1 teaspoon combined seasoning salt or salt, pepper to taste)
- 1 egg beaten with 2 tablespoons of water
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- Teriyaki Sauce:
- 2/3 cup soy sauce
- 2 cups water
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic powder
- 2/3 cup packed dark brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons honey
- Optional: 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- Thickener:
- 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
- 1/2 cup water
- Optional: Garnish: black toasted sesame seeds or regular
Instructions
- Place the chicken breasts or thighs on a cutting board and slice them around 1/2 inch thick.
- Place the egg in a large deep bowl or deep pie plate and add the chicken to it.
- Place the flour in a ziplock bag and shake the chicken into the seasoned flour.
- Heat the oil for around 4 minutes and check to see if the flour sizzles and is hot.
- Place the chicken breasts or thighs on a cutting board and slice them around 1/2 inch thick.
- Place the egg in a large deep bowl or deep pie plate and add the chicken to it.
- Place the flour in a ziplock bag and shake the chicken into the seasoned flour.
- Heat the oil for around 4 minutes and check to see if the flour sizzles and is hot.
- Place the chicken in the oil and fry turning once for around 4 minutes on each side for breast meat, thighs around 3 minutes.
- Keep the chicken warm while making the sauce.
- Note: Chicken is completely cooked when the internal temperature is at 165 degrees using an instant-read thermometer.
- Teriyaki Sauce:
- Turn the heat to medium.
- Place 1/2 of cold water with seasonings and NOT CORNSTARCH, in a small saucepan.
- Mix until nice and smooth stirring constantly until it begins to boil.
- In a small measuring cup add 1/2 cup of water with cornstarch and pour this into the hot mixture
- Stir constantly until it thickens ( add more cornstarch and water for a thicker coating).
- Stir the teriyaki sauce in with the chicken (add the sesame seeds if using).
- Serve with cooked rice and steamed vegetables.
