Wedding Dress Mini Cupcakes
Prep time: 15 MinCook time: 25 MinInactive time: 1 HourTotal time: 1 H & 40 M
Perfect cupcakes for a house bridal shower or wedding rehearsal dinner party. These wedding dress mini cupcakes are the talk of the evening for dessert and a show stopper when hosting the event!
Ingredients
- Shown in our photos is the mini cupcake tin and you will need 31 small cupcakes (or for full size, you will need 30 large regular-sized cupcakes made in a standard-sized tin)
- 2 boxes of cake mix for large cupcakes or 1 box to make mini cupcakes
- (or use our homemade anisette cake or any flavoring made-from-scratch cake recipe)
- paper liners (white or lace) use mini liners or full size for large pans
- white frosting (you will need powdered sugar if using canned frosting to thicken or use our Homemade Buttercream Recipe for Icing at the end of this post).
- 1 rectangular thick cake cardboard box to fit the cupcakes (an empty soda cardboard box works for the minis)
- white candy round pearls off white candy beads (usually found at any party or craft stores)
- sparkling sugar (thick chunky kind)
- for the belt, you can use the beads or lace ribbon
- piping bag with a large star tip (I used a disposable one from the dollar store)
- rectangular paper lace to line the box with plastic wrap over the lace
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, line your cupcake tins whether making mini or regular-sized cakes and set aside.
- Line your cardboard with lace and cover it with plastic wrap then set it aside.
- We used Mini cupcake pans (our dress is what is shown in the photo taken) which needed 31 cupcakes and if making large cupcakes you will need to make 30 to make this dress).
- Prepare the cake flavor of choice (either using a cake mix to package instructions or your favorite scratch cake) white or usually the wedding party colors for tinting the cake batter or frosting.
- See under notes for other suggestions.
- We used a small melon ball scoop for mini cupcakes(or an ice cream scoop for large cupcakes,) to make even sizes.
- Bake the cupcakes in prepared pans to package instructions and cool completely.
- If you have leftover batter (which we always do) make extra cupcakes in case one doesn't have the correct height you want them as even as possible.
- Arrange the cupcakes as shown in the photos in the wedding dress shape.
- The directions are as follows for placement on your prepared lined cardboard:
- Working from the bottom row add 5 cupcakes first in a row, then 5 more in the next row, 4 in the next, then 3 cupcakes, and then 2 for the waist then 3 again 3 more in the next row, and then the upper arm and sleeves get 3 mini each.
- Please follow the photo, it's easier to place them.
- I then filled my pastry bag with a frosting of choice (using either canned or homemade) and piped each cupcake with the large star tip in a swirling motion to cover each cupcake completely with icing.
- If you would like to use beads on the cupcakes do that after you decorate each one (I didn't use them on the cupcakes only for decorating in different sections of the dress and actually followed what the bride was wearing in style).
- Once all cupcakes are frosted, fill in any gaps using a star tip with frosting and fill all spaces in between.
- Decorate with candy beads in white, sparkling sugar, and lace can be used for the belt.
- Sprinkle sparkling sugar over the entire wedding dress if preferred and let dry in the air for at least an hour so the frosting firms up before covering.
- Homemade Buttercream Icing: (double the recipe)
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (use the clear extract for pure white)
- 1 to 2 tablespoons heavy or regular whipping cream
- Mix this with an electric heavy-duty mixer adding the sugar and butter to a bowl on low speed for around 3 minutes.
- Add the vanilla, and cream and beat for another minute.
- Sometimes you need more cream to get the right consistency just add by teaspoons until it's a good thickness for piping.
- Add the icing to the piping bag and decorate.
