Here is an assortment of favorite DIY seasoning salt and spice blends we love.

This blend for Italian seasoning salt is one we use on just about everything and just a little salt and spices go a long way for seasoning.

We have a nice assortment of Italian blends with several other ethnic combinations you may like to try in our recipe card below including a homemade pumpkin pie spice blend recipe.

These spices make great gifts and pretty containers can usually be found at any dollar store location.

Easy and economical in comparison to all the shelf brands and if you dry your own herbs in the summer, you can also have the freshest blends available.

The biggest difference is our basic recipe is for seasoning salt and is versatile for anything you're cooking our homemade blends are a guideline for recipes that call for that certain spice blend.







Easy To Make Spices At Home



Chances are you already have a cabinet full of spices and blends you have bought through the years and could have been making your own blends and salts for years.


We use a lot of seasoning for our meats, casseroles, and grilling foods, and making your own takes hardly any time and is so much more economical.


The best part about some of these blends is you can always add more or less to your own taste so these are just basic recipes to follow.

Tips

  1. measure out the spices with measuring spoons
  2. store in a dry place and not near the stove
  3. store in a mason jar also or you can use small clean baby food jars, pretty containers found at a dollar store, or in ziplock bags.
  4. for free-flowing salt add some dry rice to your bottle of the shaker container with holes on top to keep it from clumping up
  5. when using these spices just sprinkle a little on each piece of meat for seasoning
  6. if you taste the food and it's missing a stronger flavor than you like add more of that spice
  7. the basic recipe is for seasoning salt is versatile for anything you're cooking and the homemade blends are a guideline for recipes that call for that certain spice blend
  8. use just a little and adjust to your taste

Easy to Use



Remember a few rules of thumb, seasoning salt is great in small amounts for salads, meats, vegetables, and just a pinch may be enough for others who love salt, use more to taste.

Blends are great for a recipe that calls for that certain additional spice blend and a terrific example would be for chili, stews, soups, casseroles, etc.


Either way, use your judgment adjust the recipes to taste, and enjoy the ease of nothing having to run out and get something for one recipe you may already have in your cupboards!

Here are recipes for of all kinds of common seasoning blends and spices for chicken, fish, meats, and even pumpkin pie spice. Homemade and economical!

Ingredients

  • This makes 1/4 cup of ‘seasoning salt flavors stored in a small mason jar or spice jar. There are 3 versions we make see notes below:
  • Basic Recipe For Seasoning Salt
  • 1/4 cup salt is mixed with spices
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
  • Seasoning Salt Alternative Mixes:
  • For Middle Eastern Flavors: omit the mustard and paprika and 1 teaspoon each of ground cardamom, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1 teaspoon allspice
  • For Italian omit the coriander and chili powder add 1 tablespoon each dried thyme, oregano, basil, and parsley, and an additional 1 teaspoon of granulated garlic powder. Optional: for extra spicy add 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes or more to taste
  • For Grilling and Barbecue omit the paprika and add 2 teaspoons each smoked paprika, ground red chili pepper, and 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • Homemade Spice Blends ( Do Not Use The Basic Recipe these are all smaller individual blends)
  • Cajun Seasoning:
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon oregano
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Chili Seasoning:
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika or smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Jerk Seasoning:
  • 3 tablespoons dried minced onion
  • 1 tablespoon thyme
  • 1 tablespoon allspice
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt-Free All-Purpose Seasoning :
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon parsley
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons black pepper
  • Indian Blend:
  • 2 tablespoon curry (use a good fresh brand)
  • 2 tablespoon cumin
  • 2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pumpkin Pie Spice:
  • 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg
  • 1 - 1/2 teaspoons ground allspice
  • 1 - 1/2 teaspoons ground cloves
  • Beau Monde Seasoning Salt Version:
  • 1 tablespoon ground cloves
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon ground allspice
  • 2 tablespoons ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon ground white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon mace
  • 1 teaspoon celery seed

Instructions

  1. Pick out the recipe for a blend or seasoning you are making.
  2. Place all the ingredients listed in that recipe in a mason jar or zIplock bags and shake until evenly blended together.
  3. Store in a mason jar also or you can use small clean baby food jars, pretty containers found at a dollar store, or in ziplock bags.
