Grinch and Wreath Rice Krispie Treats

Rice Krispie treats are so versatile plus can be molded into just about anything so today we made a festive Holiday Grinch for our table centerpiece.

For those, not big Grinch fans, we also have several other ideas, like our easy-to-make Wreath out of Krispie treats for a festive holiday Christmas fun food.

Using a springform pan for the wreath and a heart-shaped pan for the Grinch made them easy to mold, however while still warm you certainly can shape them by hand.

We love to create new rice Krispie treats for the holiday and they are so easy to mold for even Easter making a bunny, Christmas tree, or even a Snowman.

This makes such a perfect centerpiece for the holiday table and all of them are super easy to make with very few tools and a few tricks.

If you need a fast and festive tray and want to impress your family and friends, these treats will be the talk of your holiday party and all super easy to make in no time.

Using all store-bought ingredients, canned frosting, some popcorn for the Grinch hat, and simple sanding sugars, I am sure you'll create an even better wreath and grinch with your creativity.

Rice Krispies turned into a delicious treat making the Grinch or a Wreath for you holiday Christmas table

Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
  • 40 marshmallows
  • green food coloring as dark as you like ( I use 5 drops for the wreath and 10 for the Grinch)
  • decorative sprinkles and red hot candies, candied or maraschino red and green cherries
  • Grinch Ingredients: (use the same base plus the additions below)
  • 3 cups of popped corn
  • 2 or 3 tablespoons of warmed honey or corn syrup (this is for the popcorn to stick together)
  • red sparkling sand sugar for the hat
  • green sparkling sand sugar for his nose
  • 2 - M & M color brown for the Grinch's eyes
  • 1/2 cup canned frosting chocolate frosting for the outline
  • 1/4 cup canned white frosting tinted yellow with food coloring
  • Note: for free-flowing frosting microwave the frosting for 4 seconds, add the yellow food coloring, and spoon it into the eye indentations

Instructions

  1. Grinch:
  2. Cut parchment paper to fit a 9-inch heart-shaped pan.
  3. In a large heavy-duty saucepan, melt the butter adding around 10 drops of green food coloring.
  4. Once it's melted add marshmallows and mix vigorously until blended evenly in color.
  5. Pour into the heart-shaped pan.
  6. While still warm make the indents for the eyes, puff up the nose and shape the cheeks with your fingers.
  7. Pop the popcorn, I added a little warmed corn syrup or honey to make the ball and keep the hat together.
  8. Make the rim of the hat leaving the popcorn plain.
  9. Build the hat and ball with popcorn and sprinkle the top of the hat and the ball with red sanding sugar.
  10. Tint the white frosting with yellow and fill in the eyes, adding the brown candy in the middle.
  11. Outline using a decorator pastry tube with brown frosting using a round writing tip to make the lines in the face,
  12. Wreath:
  13. Prepare your springform pan by spraying it lightly with cooking oil.
  14. Note: If you have a flat angel food tube pan, that works fine also but you would have to cut to fit parchment paper first to get this to come out of your pan.
  15. Place a 12 to16 ounce glass in the center of the pan and set this aside.
  16. Melt the butter in a heavy-duty saucepan.
  17. Add the marshmallows and stir until melted.
  18. Stir in around 4 to 6 drops of food coloring (I am not fond of super green so make it as dark and bright as you like it.).
  19. Add the cereal and coat evenly using a spoon.
  20. Spread the cereal evenly around the glass.
  21. Let cool completely before removing the glass.
  22. Decorate the ring to look like a wreath with cherries.
  23. The ring will easily slide off the pan onto a plate or plastic cake carrier container for easy transporting.
