For those who love a great beanless chili dog, this is a mouth-watering delight and a copycat from my hometown Utica, New York.
We love this hearty topping, it's great on so many foods besides just hot dogs.
It makes a great topping for rice, pasta, and baked potatoes too!
This is sauteed with garlic and bell peppers that have been pureed in the food processor, the flavors are fabulous.
After you grill your hot dog, place it in the bun with this chili then heavily sprinkle it with sharp cheddar cheese and you have a ballpark home run for sure!
This is one of my all-time favorites when I serve my grilled hotdogs.

Fun Hot Dogs
I love a loaded hot dog they are such great fun to eat!
In Coney Island, this is a famous treat loaded with savory meat sauce if offered with many other toppings and a classic American "diner food".
Coney Island restaurants will just about offer this chili dog on every menu.
Because not everyone loves chili on their hot dogs, I always set up a food bar station with all the fixings on it on the side.
They can build their own hot dog with whatever they like.
Served with seasoned fries, salt, and vinegar chips, are a few of the favorite side dishes along with macaroni and cheese commonly asked for with these.

Ingredients You Will Need
- ground beef
- beef broth, or water
- canola oil
- medium-sized bell pepper
- fresh garlic
- granulated garlic
- smoked paprika
- chili powder
- cumin
- cayenne pepper to taste
- Worcestershire sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
- crushed tomatoes
- Garnish: extra sharp cheddar cheese shredded
- Optional: 1 small finely chopped onion ( the onion will continue to get a stronger flavor in leftover chili, so I never put it in. I serve them chopped raw on the side or you can grill them separately to add on top when serving the chili.
- Note: There isn't any onion in mine because it gets stronger as the day goes by so this will taste fresh for up to 4 days and taste the same. You can always add some raw chopped onion on top of your hotdog if you want to get that flavor.

Chili Cheese Hot Dogs
If you want to leave the cheese off and add one of the many suggestions above, just build your chili dog the way your family likes it.
Like I said before, set up a chili cheese bar, add all the different toppings and let them have fun making it the way they love their dogs.
Plain or loaded, spicy, or sweet, there will be something for everyone!
These chili cheese dogs are quite flavorful.
The chili is sweet, tangy, and bold and you can even add a little kick to it with cayenne pepper, hot sauce, or use hot peppers on top.
Plain and simple maybe not so pretty or fancy but easy delicious and fun~!

Hot Dog Chili
This is a homemade chili for topping hot dogs a famous diner food in Coney Island. A recipe I developed over the years to my family's taste. This chili is great over baked potatoes, cheese fries and so much more!

Ingredients
- Chili Dog Topping:
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1 cup beef broth, or water
- 4 tablespoons canola oil
- 1 medium-sized bell pepper clean and cut in four pieces
- 2 cloves fresh garlic
- 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- cayenne pepper to taste
- 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup crushed tomatoes
- Garnish: extra sharp cheddar cheese shredded
- Optional: 1 small finely chopped onion ( the onion will continue to get a stronger flavor in leftover chili, so I never put it in. I serve them chopped raw on the side or you can grill them separately to add on top when serving the chili.

Instructions
- Chili for Hot Dogs:
- In a food processor add the bell pepper with fresh garlic. broth or water and pulse until small bits are left.
- Heat a medium-sized saucepan and brown the meat in oil add all the seasoning spices until all the pink is gone.
- Add the broth mixture with tomatoes, and Worcestershire sauce, and season to taste.
- Simmer until the liquid is almost all evaporated and the mixture is thick, around 20 minutes on medium-high heat stirring occasionally.
- If it starts to get too thick add more broth if necessary or water.
- Place your hot dog on a bun, spoon the hot dog chili on top, and add shredded cheddar cheese if desired on top.
- Coney Island Style Chili ( a different popular version found in Coney Island diners)
- 2 pounds of ground beef
- 6 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cups low-sodium chicken broth
- 11/2 cups tomato juice
- 1 tablespoon of loose chicken bouillon
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 2 teaspoons turmeric
- 2 tablespoons smoked paprika
- 8 tablespoons flour
- 1 package of all beef hot dogs steamed
- 12 hot dog buns, warmed
- Garnish: 1 minced white onion, yellow mustard
- Directions:
- Brown the meat until all the pink is gone in the oil in a deep skillet or saucepan. Add the broth and flour to a large and whisk together until smooth. Add all the rest of the seasoning in the bowl and blend.
- Pour this into the saucepan with meat.
- Simmer until thickened.
- Assemble the steamed hot dogs in a bun add the steamed hot dog then top with the chili. Top with minced onion and yellow mustard.
- Note: steamed hot dogs can be made using a metal steamer over boiling water. The hot dogs are done when the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees. Or you can just boil hot dogs in boiling water for 7 to 8 minutes.
