Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats

This marshmallow peanut butter Rice Krispie treats, bring me back to my childhood.

These were one of my favorite dessert treats when I was growing up.

I loved the change from the original recipe with just marshmallows to adding peanut butter.

By adding the peanut butter in there they stayed softer.

I like to think of these as gourmet Peanut Butter Recipe Krispie Treats!

Peanut butter treats are softer and gooey plus just darn over top delicious any peanut butter lover will adore!

Treats

I loved these treats as a child.

Mom made them often.

Then one day she made these peanut butter ones and that was my new favorite.

I could hardly wait until they cooled off!

Since the kids love chocolate, I sprinkle mini semi-sweet chocolate chips on top while still a little warm.

Bring Back The Old Days

Every once in a while I get really nostalgic.

I love marshmallows and any kind of cereal together and this is my go-to vintage recipe.

When I start reminiscing about my childhood there are certain comfort foods that bring back warm memories.

This is my go-to recipe that jars all the food memories of mom cooking in the kitchen when I was a kid.

A Childhood Favorite

Peanut butter rice crispy treats were a favorite of mine.

The original recipe called for less butter.

I happen to like both the regular marshmallow treats and this peanut butter treat, with more butter

Peanut Butter Treats Adapted

I actually use less peanut butter than what it called for.

The recipe is slightly adapted to make them stay soft longer.

These are really soft and gooey, crisp and delicious.

Sometimes she would even drizzle Nutella or melted chocolate on top, especially around Easter.

This was a treat at Halloween too.

You can even shape these into eggs or cut them out with cookie cutters to make a themed treat!

Tips

  • I also use part margarine and part butter. Margarine has more water in it, so I would never use all margarine.
  • However, all butter would be fine.
  • I love mine not so thick so I use a 13 x 9 cake pan lined with parchment paper.
  • If you love a thicker bar you will need a brownie size pan around 12 x 10.
  • Just be sure to pat down the treats so they are compacted down, it makes them easier to cut.
  • You can use the back of a spoon, wax paper or even a buttered spatula.
  • Add any kind of chips on top while still warm for a change

Change It Up

If you love chocolate you can also add miniature chocolate chips on top of these before they are completely cool.

That is another way we like them.

The other option I like occasionally is to substitute the plain Rice Krispies with chocolate Krispies instead.

Those are also delicious.

One last option, use white chocolate chips or even chopped up peanut butter cups on top.

Great Memories

There are so many recipes that bring some warm feelings about your past.

I love to think back when mom was still around and we made them together. Making those memories last a lifetime.

I miss everything mom made.

Making things we did together keeps her memory alive.

That's what keeps her memory alive.

  • 8 cups of Rice Krispies plain or chocolate
  • Optional:  chopped candy bars, peanut butter cups or mini chocolate chips for garnishing

instructions:

  1. Melt the butter and margarine together (you can use all butter or all margarine if you like).
  2. Pour in the marshmallows. Stir until melted. Add the peanut butter and stir until well blended. Add in the Rice Krispies stir until well coated
