This a how-to-make cake flour substitute good for desserts, cookies pastries, and whatever cake flour is called for in a recipe.

Ingredients

  • How To Make Cake Flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour minus 2 tablespoons
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • Now put it through a sifter 3 or 4 times
  • Cake Recipe:
  • 2 1/2 cups cake flour see above for the recipe
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup finely ground almonds
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons orange, lemon, or lime peel zest
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened

Instructions

  1. Cake Batter:
  2. Process zest, almonds, and sugar in a food processor and set aside.
  3. Mix egg, vanilla, and sour cream stir together, and set aside.
  4. Cream butter and sugar, zest mixture together in a large mixing bowl for around 2 minutes.
  5. Slowly add the sour cream and eggs one at a time then stir in with all the dry ingredients left.
  6. Bake in a 13 x 9 greased pan (or you can use two greased 9-inch or bundt pans) at 350 degrees for around 30 to 55 minutes depending on the pans you are using..
  7. Frost with cream cheese frosting:
  8. 8 ounces of cream cheese
  9. 1/2 cup butter, softened
  10. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  11. 4 cups powdered sugar
  12. Using an electric mixer beat the cheese butter and vanilla until smooth then gradually add the sugar.
