These little fried balls of fritter cakes are very much like donuts, however, they are chock full of fresh farm-fresh corn, cut right off the cob.
A tender little treat that melts in your mouth and is eaten while still a little warm with a light coating of powdered sugar so addicting.
I can't tell you how fast these fly off the plate we end up making two batches and they're gone in a New York minute.
I use a brown paper bag to shake them into coat evenly and they're just the right sweetness.
If you've never tried this Southern little corn fritter donut hole as a kid you're going to need to whip up a batch.
I love any kind fried desserts especially like Mom's Italian Fried Zeppole for dessert.

It's A Southern Thang!
When I first came to Florida, I had never heard of a corn fritter.
Then all the local Restaurants served them as an appetizer on the table and our favorite was Dixie Crossroads in Titusville, Florida.
This copycat recipe is pretty darn close to theirs and it's our go to recipe until we get a chance to visit there again.
One bite and I was hooked.
Rolling In Powdered Sugar
As I mentioned I shake them in a brown paper lunch-size bag, however you can just out the sugar in a pie plate if you don't have one.
When you first take them out the oil, place them on paper towels to drain off the oil
Then after a few minutes shake them or roll into powdered sugar.
I usually roll them twice.
I love a thicker sugar on them, it gives them the perfect sweetness needed.

These are little cake-like soft fried pillows.
The powdery sugar-coated fritters are so delicious and addicting.
I couldn't wait to try and make them at home.
Hard To Wait!
Oh, they smell so good while frying.
You won't be able to wait to eat these.
A word of caution, they are hot, hot, hot inside!
Donut Holes
These are a smaller version of the old fashioned kind of fritters.
The usual fritters are typically dropped in oil fried very large.
I like the bite-sized donut holes.
Making them smaller, the old fashioned fritters will cook up quicker.
They are easier to eat too.

How to cook Old Fashioned Corn Fritters
- Mix the egg, milk baking powder, salt, butter and sugar in a bowl.
- Stir in the flour, add the corn. just until evenly blended.
- Heat oil to medium-low heat, until using a drop of batter starts to sizzle
- (medium heat on my stove is number 4).
- Drop by teaspoons full in the hot oil and cook on both sides. I use a small melon ball size scoop to make them even in size.
- Note: I usually cut one open and make sure the heat is correctly cooking them inside when browned to be sure they are cooked all the way.
