These little tartlets are just the perfect vessel for any fillings, from seafood to just vegetarian and we have all the ideas below you will even need.

Why Make Little Mini Tartlets?

Filling Ideas Additions

  1. cooked Italian sweet or hot sausage or meatballs in sauce
  2. chopped pepperoni or another dried meat, mozzarella, marinara and grated cheese
  3. fill with diced tomato, shredded lettuce, diced cucumber, diced celery, artichoke hearts with a balsamic vinaigrette
  4. fill with antipasto ingredients
  5. filled with tomato caprese salad

Tips for Making the Best Filled Tartlets


  • preheat the oven
  • use a 12-cup muffin tin or a pie plate for a deep dish
  • use sharp cheddar cheese for the best flavor
  • Hellmann's or another nonsweet mayonnaise is recommended
  • For meat eaters add any chopped cooked meats you like
  • Garnish with fresh dill, parsley 
  • Don't forget to use oil spray on whatever pan you're using
  • Eggs beaten can be used and made into mini quiches with any additions baking times will vary
  • Avoid baking additional vegetables that are water-filled or it will make the dough soggy

Savory Filled Tarlet Dough Recipes

Delicious mini tartlet appetizer with various fillings perfect when hosting a dinner party or important event.

Ingredients

  • Homemade Tartlet Dough (or use refrigerated pie dough or thawed phyllo dough)
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 sticks cold unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 5 to 8 tablespoons of ice-cold water
  • You will need:
  • mini tartlet pans or a mini muffin tin greased
  • Note: Filling suggestions below under ingredients.

Instructions

  1. Directions for Homemade Tartlet Dough:
  2. Place the flour and butter into a food processor and pulse to blend looking like a coarse meal.
  3. Add one tablespoon of water at a time until dough forms.
  4. Do not overwork or will result in tough dough.
  5. Squeeze the dough in your hand to see if it holds together if not add more water.
  6. Wrap the dough and refrigerate for an hour.
  7. Roll out dough into small squares to fit tartlet pans that have been sprayed with cooking oil.
  8. Bake at 375 degrees until lightly browned. Cool completed and filled with suggestions below.
  9. Crab Meat and Herb Filling Recipe:
  10. 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  11. 1 cup canned crabmeat drained ( use canned chicken for seafood allergies)
  12. 1/2 cup sour cream
  13. 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  14. 1 tablespoon fresh or dried dill
  15. 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  16. 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  17. 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  18. salt and pepper to taste
  19. 2 sheets of pie dough or phyllo dough frozen
  20. Mix the filling and refrigerate for 2 hours.
  21. Line your tins with dough and bake at 375 degrees until browned around 7 to 8 minutes. Cool and fill. Note: these can be served warm or cold. Fill with crab first then bake for warm appetizers.
  22. Chicken Waldorf Salad:
  23. 1 Chicken breast boneless cubed, boiled and drained
  24. 1 small gala apple
  25. 1/4 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
  26. 1/4 cup golden raisins, craisins, or other dried fruit
  27. 3 tablespoons or more peppercorn ranch dressing
  28. Mix all together in a bowl and refrigerate overnight for the best results. Add more dressing if this seems a little dry for you.
  29. Mexican Filled:
  30. 1 can of Refried beans
  31. 1/2 cup Salsa
  32. Mix.
  33. Shredded Sharp Cheddar for garnish
  34. Other fillings: egg salad, tuna salad, ham salad, chopped turkey or any other deli meat mixed with mayo, chicken salad, bacon, lettuce, and tomato.
