Meatball Parmesan Pizza Recipe

If you happen to ever have some leftover Meatballs (which is usually always the case in our house, because we make enough Sunday pasta sauce with meatballs to feed a small army) leftover meatballs crushed in the sauce is deliciously repurposed on a pizza during any weeknight.

Italian Meatball Pizza is one of our favorites and what can be better than a loaded pizza that is topped with tender and juicy sliced Italian meatballs!

Honestly, the kids love this pizza and it is super easy to make any weeknight if you use a store-bought dough, thawed frozen meatballs, and marinara sauce oh, and don't forget the mozzarella cheese.

Covered sandwiches and pizza are always the top two on the list of repurpose when it comes to meatballs from Sunday sauce for a pasta meal in our Italian home.

Starting with homemade long-simmered meatballs in Traditional Sunday Sauce, then making the fresh pizza dough, cheese, and meatball topping this becomes a whole meal in itself!

San Marzano's fresh sauce recipe is included below since this is just a glimpse of a recipe along with my fresh pizza dough!

We never let leftovers go to waste in our home, there is always another plan to recreate another way to use whatever we have in another meal!

Growing Up in the 1960s


Money in the 1960s was tight, mom and dad always came up with delicious ideas for leftovers.

Sometimes we even used day-old bread for the pizza crust!

Mom called it a poor man's pizza, and we loved it!

What kid doesn't like pizza or adults?

The other question who doesn't love meatballs and cheese melted?

Well, don't even read on to read all the wonderful ideas mom had making pizza easier and using leftovers to put a smile on our faces.

I love this pizza whether it's homemade or semi-homemade, it's always a quick tasty meal!

Hey, she used whatever we had and nothing went to waste ever.

Homemade Pizza Made Easy


  • Here are some other pizza options:
  • French bread sliced lengthwise and toasted first for a crunch which is optional
  • Pita bread also baked it a few minutes with olive oil to get it toasted
  • English muffin pizza, just split them, toast them, and add the sauce and whatever toppings you like
  • Flour tortillas saute them in a frying pan with olive oil get them crisp on the bottom, and add the sauce and topping
  • Use canned pizza sauce
  • Buy shredded cheeses of any kind but mozzarella is preferred
  • Sprinkle the top with Italian herbs

Making pizza homemade doesn't have to be difficult, just pick what time you have to create a personal pan pizza for each person.


You just need a few ingredients to be on your way to a family fun night of pizza making!

  2. The rest is easy to use these ingredients as much as you want:
  3. Sliced Meatballs in sauce or sausage leftover
  4. Whole milk shredded mozzarella cheese
  5. Grated Pecorino Romano cheese
  6. Optional suggestions: Sliced garlic, fresh basil, dried oregano or fresh if you have it and red pepper flakes
  7. Olive oil
  8. Optional: sliced peppers, mushrooms, sausage, black olives

  • San Marzano whole peeled tomatoes or use 2 pounds of fresh plum tomatoes put through the food processor
  • Fresh leaves of basil
  • oregano
  • dried parsley flakes
  • sugar
  • cloves minced garlic
  • olive oil
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper
  • pinch of cayenne pepper

Other Tips:


  1. Always toast the bread you chose if not using pizza dough
  2. Refrigerator biscuits work well also to use in a pinch
  3. Use jarred pizza sauce in a hurry
  4. Broil the tops if you want crispy browned cheese
  5. Use any leftover meats you have including steaks, burgers, even sliced pork
  6. Add a layer of ricotta cheese before the sliced meatballs for a real treat!

instructions:

How to cook

  1. Stretch out the dough on a deep dish-greased pizza pan ( I use Crisco).
  2. Let rise until doubled. Bake at 400 degrees until browned around 25 minutes.
  3. Remove from the oven.
  4. Sprinkle with olive oil on both sides.
  5. Top with sliced meatballs and lots of grated parmesan cheese, sliced garlic, and any other toppings. Adding a layer of ricotta cheese is great too!
  6. Add a generous amount of whole milk mozzarella cheese and bake again at 400 degrees until the cheese is browned and bubbling.
  7. Sprinkle with dried oregano if using or fresh basil.
  8. I sprinkle more grating cheese on mine and pour some hot sauce on top.
  9. My pizza slice looks like a covered open-face sandwich! Cheers!
  10. For the Pizza Sauce Recipe using San Marzano
  11. San Marzano Pizza Sauce Recipe
  12. 1- 28 ounce can of San Marzano whole peeled tomatoes or use 2 pounds of fresh plum tomatoes put through the food processor
  13. 3 fresh leaves of basil
  14. 2 teaspoons oregano
  15. 1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes
  16. 3 tablespoon sugar
  17. 2 cloves minced garlic
  18. 1/4 cup olive oil
  19. salt to taste
  20. 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  21. pinch of cayenne pepper
  22. Place the tomatoes in a food processor with all the herbs.
  23. In a medium-size, saucepan adds the olive oil and minced garlic and saute for 1 minute. Add the tomatoes herbs and cook for around 1/2 hour.
  24. This is now ready to be used on your pizza dough to make your favorite
  25. Italian pizza! We loved the taste of this sauce for pizza. A very fresh-tasting sauce.
