Best Ever Boston Butt Roast in a Slow Cooker

This is the best ever Boston butt pork roast in a slow cooker.


This Boston butt roast might take a few hours but it's oh so worth it!


The first time I made this, the smell of it cooking was overwhelming delicious that it made my mouth water.


I love using a slow cooker, it makes everything moist, juicy and it's so easy to cook in!


Every kind of meat always is spot-on perfect, no worry about a tough piece of meat or dinner ruined with my cooking methods.



The best part is if there are any leftovers you can turn it into pulled pork using my Jack Daniels sauce recipe for sandwiches or use it to make fried rice for another meal!

Cooking Methods!

Note: Check liquid for Stovetop and Oven Methods ( add more if it drys out at 2 hours)


  • Slow Cooker: cook this cut of meat up to 8 hours on low or 4 to 6 hours on high
  • Instant Pot: Slow cooker mode
  • Stovetop: Deep Dutch Oven, low heat simmer for at least an hour per pound
  • Oven: Oven bags work the best for tender meat cook on 325 for at least 4 hours or more. You can also use a large Dutch Oven Pan, covered, at 325 degrees, the same amount of time.
  • Slow cooking is the way to go, no matter what I decide to cook, I love it the best in methods, easy peasy.

Ingredients for Making Pork Roasts


  • Boston Butt 
  • Seasoning Rub:
  • salt
  • crushed red pepper
  • black pepper
  • white pepper
  • fresh garlic
  • garlic powder
  • oregano
  • tarragon
  • nutmeg
  • ground thyme
  • marjoram
  • rosemary
  • whole basil
  • applesauce regular or cinnamon flavored
  • Apple Brandy (or more if using a larger roast add more Apple Brandy), or substitute apple cider or water
  • Cooking Oil Spray

Tips and Suggestions


  1. The secret ingredients added to this recipe makes this the most tender, juicy pork roast ever.
  2. This slow-cooked pork roast is tender, juicy and ultimately makes its own gravy.
  3. You don't really have to make side dishes just add some vegetables to the pot like I did below.
  4. If you choose a different cooking method remember always slow and low heat
  5. If the roast start to loose liquid add more of one of the suggestive liquids in the recipe

Boston Butt




Boston butt, or pork butt, is the American name for a cut of pork that comes from the upper part of the shoulder from the front leg and may contain the blade bone.



It is also used for making homemade sausage like Pork Breakfast Sausage or Italian Homemade Sausage Patties.



Boston butt is the most common cut used for pulled pork for barbecues however it makes an economical delicious pork roast when you season it up just right like this recipe.

Best Ever Boston Butt Roast in a Slow Cooker

This is a fork-tender recipe using Pork Butt. This can be made with several cooking methods. The pork is made with delicious apple brandy or apple juice and several herbs and spices to make the best ever roast you'll ever eat and so easy!

Ingredients:

  • 4 lb Boston Butt up to
  • Seasoning Rub:
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 clove fresh garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon tarragon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon marjoram
  • 1/2 teaspoon rosemary
  • 1/2 teaspoon whole basil
  • 1/2 cup applesauce regular or cinnamon flavored
  • 1/4 cup Apple Brandy (or more if using a larger roast add more Apple Brandy), or substitute apple cider or water
  • Cooking Oil Spray

Instructions:

  1. Spray the pork with cooking spray in your large slow cooker.
  2. Note: Although I don't sear the meat first you can do that if you prefer the outside browned.  Just add a few tablespoons of cooking oil to a pan or on the Sear mode of your instant pot and sear the meat for 4 minutes on each side.
  3. Sprinkle with herbs and spices on top and fatty sides.
  4. Add the applesauce to the bottom with water or brandy.
  5. Slow Cook 4 to 6 hours on high or low 6 to  8 hours.
  6. For Other Cooking Methods:
  7. Instant Pot:  Use the Slow cooker mode or follow directions for pressure cooking in your instruction guide
  8. Stovetop: Deep Dutch Oven, low heat simmer for at least an hour per pound
  9. Oven: Oven bags work the best for tender meat cook on 325 for at least 4 hours or more. You can also use a large Dutch Oven Pan, covered, at 325 degrees, the same amount of time.
  10. Slow cooking is the way to go, no matter what I decide to cook, I love it the best in methods, easy peasy.
  11. This roast falls off the bone. Serve with mashed potatoes and lots of crusty bread Italian Bread!
