Baked Apple Donut Holes

These baked apple cinnamon donut holes have tender crumbs and on a delectable fall flavor rolled into a cinnamon-sugar coating.

They make fun finger food for Halloween and are perfect for a fall breakfast treat!

These apple donut holes will be the talk around the dinner table for dessert or a wonderful smell of baking for a breakfast treat on those cooler days to wake up to!

Mix-Ins and Tips

  1. chopped toasted pistachios
  2. chopped macadamia nuts
  3. toasted almonds
  4. add sliced pears, peaches, or another fruit you prefer
  5. for allergies use sunflower or pumpkin seeds
  6. add icing then roll in chocolate sprinkle
  7. dip in melted chocolate with toasted pecans
  8. dip the donuts in icing or roll in powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar
  9. dip in icing then sprinkle with colorful candies to match a party theme
  10. dip in icing then in coconut
  11. add another flavoring you prefer to match the mix-ins
  12. chopped dried fruits
  13. add mini chocolate chips or another flavor chip to the batter

Baked Apple Donut Holes

Baked mini donut holes with apples are a healthier choice than fried ones. A mini muffin pan is a must to make these delicious little donut bites!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup of lightly packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup of white sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups McIntosh, Rome, or Gala apples, cut into chunks, peeled and cored (I chopped in the food processor)
  • 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/3 cup of cold butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • Garnish: powdered sugar or make a cinnamon sugar mixture to roll these in
  • 1/3 cup of sugar + 1 teaspoon cinnamon mixed, set aside.

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Oil Spray a mini muffin pan and set this aside.
  2. Mix the flour, baking powder, both sugars, salt, and spices in a bowl.
  3. Add the cold chopped butter.
  4. Use a pastry cutter with the butter and the flour mixture until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs or use a fork..
  5. In a small bowl beat the egg.
  6. Mix in the milk and fold in the chopped apples. Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture.
  7. Stir using a spatula or spoon making sure not to over-mix. Place a spoonful of batter into each oil-sprayed mini muffin pan.
  8. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until the donuts are just golden.
  9. Remove from the oven, and cool donuts on a wired rack.
  10. Roll each donut in powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar.
  11. Best eaten while warm.
