Italian Sauteed Spinach

If you love spinach here are two recipes below we love using fresh spinach sauteed in olive oil and garlic.

The other recipe uses Brussels sprouts, spinach, and sliced almonds and also excellent.

I have only used fresh spinach leaves in my recipes but I have been told canned and frozen also will work with this simple side dish.

Spinach can be used in so many ways and so versatile.

Great for stuffing in a stromboli pizza dough, on a burger, in quiches, or just using this as a bed of spinach under some baked fish.

This versatile recipe can be spicy or plain depending on how much heat you like, and with the addition of a Utica grind of red pepper that's exactly how we serve ours.

If you love spinach, this is an easy way to serve it, and just adapt these recipes below to your taste.

This is an Italian garlicky flavored sauteed spinach. The spinach is made with fresh baby spinach and is perfect for spinach lovers in Italian bread as a sandwich or side dish.

Ingredients:

  • Italian Style Spinach
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic sliced (or more taste)
  • 1  15 - ounce bag of fresh baby spinach washed and left wet ( I never use canned or frozen, but you can if you like either one)
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • red pepper flakes for heat to taste
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • water, vegetable or chicken broth
  • Hard Crusted Italian Bread

Instructions:

  1. For the Fried Italian Sauteed Spinach:
  2. In a large frying pan, add the oil and place the wet-washed spinach in the frying pan before it gets hot to avoid splattering.
  3. Saute the spinach adding salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste until it's wilted.
  4. This takes around 5 to 8 minutes.
  5. If it's not as tender as you prefer your spinach softer, just add more broth or water and continue to saute the spinach until the desired doneness.
