Slow Cooker Chicken Marsala with Dumplings

I love simplified recipes like this comforting Slow Cooker Chicken Marsala with Dumplings.

Slow Cooker Dumplings and Marsala with Chicken Steps

  • saute the flour-coated chicken first before adding it to the slow cooker just to a golden brown for 2 to 3 minutes on each side
  • add to the slow cooker with all the ingredients and slow cook until tender around 6 hours
  • mix up the dumpling batter, place on top, and let them cook for around 30 minutes or more until they are dry in the center
  • Note: use an instant-read thermometer in the thickest part of the chicken. It's completed cooking when the internal temperature is 165 degrees

Slow Cooker Chicken Marsala with Dumplings

A slow cooker hearty meal with chicken, mushrooms in a Marsala gravy perfect over mashed potatoes or pasta.

Ingredients

  • Chicken Ingredients:
  • 4 boneless Chicken Breasts
  • 1/2 cup of flour
  • 1 large plastic bag for shaking
  • 1 teaspoon of each garlic powder, Italian seasoning
  • 1 clove of minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 cup Marsala wine
  • 2 cups of chicken broth
  • 1 cup of freshly sliced mushrooms
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • salt, and pepper to taste, and red pepper flakes for heat if you prefer
  • 1 lb of linguine cooked to package instructions
  • extra parsley for garnish
  • salt for the water when cooking the pasta
  • Dumpling Biscuit Ingredients:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup half-and-half or whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon each of garlic powder, parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1/4 grated Romano cheese
  • pinch of cayenne powder

Instructions

  1. Chicken Instructions:
  2. Put flour in a large plastic bag with herbs, and garlic then shake the chicken to coat evenly.
  3. In a large fry pan add olive oil, and saute chicken till just lightly browned on both sides, around 2 to 3 minutes on each side then add garlic for 1 more minute.
  4. Place in the slow cooker. Add all the rest of the ingredients except the biscuits.
  5. Slow cook on high for 4 to 6 hours or until the chicken flakes easily with a fork (the center of the thickest part should be at 165 degrees using an internal instant-read thermometer.
  6. 30 minutes before the done drop the dumplings on top of the chicken and cook until dumplings are cooked (it may take more than 30 minutes depending on how thick they are (add more broth if needed).
  7. Dumpling Instructions:
  8. Mix the dry ingredients and herbs in one bowl and the wet ingredients in another. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry just until moistened and all comes together. Cover the dough with a wet towel and set aside.
