Italian Sauce Steak

Italian Sauce Steak is a slow-cooked stovetop round steak or cube steak meat in tomato sauce and sometimes a few added peppers and mushrooms in the pan for a quick delicious meal.

The recipe is yet another one of my favorite recipes that mom made in the early 1960s and my two sons renamed as children to sauce steak.

This dish is made with inexpensive cuts of meat using either ground beef made into patties, round steaks, cube steaks or whatever was affordable at the time and we felt like we were rich eating a banquet meal in those days.

The meat can be served with just about any side dish you can imagine and even on top of toasted Italian bread, the sauce is scrumptious.

Cooked in a little wine, crushed tomatoes, spices with a round steak or cube steaks, simmered slow, in a pan will make this so fork-tender.

She would even add vegetables to this dish if we had something fresh from the garden so it's pretty adaptable.

This recipe continues to be a favorite of my grown children and now my grandchildren and still an inexpensive dish to feed a large family deliciously!

I usually never have leftovers but when I do, the meat is even awesome in a hard roll or buttered garlic bread then sprinkled with shredded mozzarella, oh it's so good!

After all these years, this dish still has great meaning, and we love recipes that are tried and true like hotdogs and potatoes or  grandma's hamburgers which continue to bring the same wonderful childhood food memories to them.

Delicious Sauce Steak

Back in the 1960s when money was tight this was a staple growing up and then my kids loved it when they came around.

Honestly, this basic recipe and sauce are great for any meat you choose to use.

This simple recipe is over 100 years old and mom knew how to stretch a dollar for food bills and feed a large family.

As time went on we tried this recipe with lamb, one large sirloin steak,  hamburgers, chicken, and pork all terrific substitutions, and whatever you can add for an all-in-one pan meal, this was our go-to recipe.

You can also bake these in the oven but add a little more liquid to the sauce and slow cook them or use a slow cooker for 4 to 6 hours on high after browning meat.

Easy Comfort Meals

Not only is this an easy beef meal to throw together, have several different cooking methods, the meat you chose is great over pasta, rice, or even a slice of bread!

Those additions can be made ahead of time and your family can make their own meal different for lunch or dinner and have repurposed leftovers with a brand new meal.

Again if you're not a beef lover try this with boneless chicken or pork, the sauce is addicting and so delicious!

My Boys Curt and Chad, still claim this as a favorite meal!
