Air Fried Home Fries

These Air Fried Home Fries or Oven Roasted Potatoes are fabulous!


My mom made these often when we were growing up and they were always oven-roasted or pan-fried and they were often served for breakfast at many local restaurants.


If you love home fried potatoes, they really can be for breakfast, lunch or dinner and a great side dish anytime!


After getting a new air fryer, I was very pleased how delicious they crisped up on the outside and so delicious.


This method is the quickest and easiest way to get the best home fries I have ever had.


The air fryer cooks them perfectly using less oil which equals less fat and calories, without compromising the flavor.


For those who don't have an air fryer, I will give the instructions for oven-roasted, pan-fried, or grilled!

A Family Favorite


If you love potatoes and have an air fryer, I highly recommend trying this recipe.

An air fryer is a great little small appliance addition to any kitchen.


Oven-roasted is great but takes longer, however, these can be made either way and still be delicious.


Originally these were pan-fried and you still can do them in a cast-iron skillet like my mom use cook them.


I love the garlic and seasoned coating on these potatoes plus the addition of herbs just gives them the best tasting spuds on the planet!


If you want the easiest side dish for any meal ever, this is it!

Ingredients To Make These Air Fried Home Fries


  • extra virgin olive oil
  • russet potatoes cut up in wedges or in half if small skins on or off
  • mixed herbs dried parsley, dried basil, dried oregano
  • cloves minced garlic or use granulated garlic to taste
  • paprika
  • salt and pepper evenly to taste
  • optional: cayenne pepper for heat or red pepper flakes

Tips:



  • Make sure you coat the potatoes with a good tasting extra virgin olive oil
  • Boiling them first keeps the potatoes moist inside and crunchy outside
  • Always use foil for the air fryer,  never use the parchment it will catch fire
  • If oven roasting use parchment paper so they won't stick to the pan
  • Use fresh herbs when possible but for all year round the recipe shows dried herbs
  • Preheat the air fryer or oven before air frying or  roasting the potatoes
  • These also can be served with melted cheeses on top of your choice for a change

Cooking Methods



  1. Air Fried cook at 400 degrees for 15 minutes
  2. Pan-Fried fry in canola or vegetable oil until golden brown
  3. Oven Roasted at 400 degrees on a baking sheet
  4. Grilled these can be grilled tossed in a small amount of oil and cooked until browned and crispy

Toppings and Serving Suggestions

  1. fresh herbs on top are terrific adding some chopped basil, rosemary, and thyme, you can also add some red pepper flakes or chili powder on top

  4. taco meat and cheese salsaavocado or guacamole
  5. shredded barbecued pork or pulled shredded bourbon chicken
  6. leftover boneless buffalo chicken tenders chopped with blue cheese and shredded cheddar cheese

  8. BLT dip topping or Coleslaw topping
  9. chicken parmesan bites
  10. Philadelphia cheese steak filling
  11. lemon chicken
  12. Guinness Corned Beef
  13. shredded Dubliner cheese or Beer cheese 
  14. boiled or fried cabbage





Home Fried Potato Suggestions



These are great for breakfast and we served them with eggs and bacon, toast most weekends when everyone was home.


They were often served back in the 1960s at after hour breakfast restaurants and we just loved them.


Of course, back then they were done on a grill or pan-fried.


These potatoes are great with any meal and the potatoes.


Sometimes we add shredded cheese on top or add meats like sliced cooked Italian sausage,  cooked bacon,  chopped capicola, pepperoni, and then add some sliced onion and roasted peppers.


You can make a whole meal just out of these home fried potatoes!

These are a crunchy air-fried home fried potatoes are perfect anytime but great served with breakfast. The recipe also has instructions for oven roasting and pan-fried.

ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • russet potatoes cut up in wedges or in half if small skins on or off
  • 1 tablespoon mixed herbs dried parsley, dried basil, dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 2 cloves minced garlic or use 1 teaspoon granulated garlic to taste
  • salt and pepper evenly to taste
  • optional: cayenne pepper for heat or red pepper flakes
  • optional additions: thinly sliced onions, sliced roasted peppers, sliced cooked Italian sausage links, pepperoni, shredded cheese on top IE sharp shredded cheddar, shredded mozzarella or provolone

instructions:

How to cook Air Fried Home Fries

  1. Cube up as many potatoes that will fit in your frying basket. (We did these with the skins on and off as shown in the photos.)
  2. Boil the potatoes in salt water for around 7 minutes and drain.
  3. Place the cubed potatoes in a big bowl and toss them in the olive oil and with all the ingredients remaining.
  4. For Air Fryer:
  5. Place a piece of tin foil on the bottom of the basket.
  6. Scoop the potatoes onto the foil I like to brush them with a little oil
  7. Set the fryer to 400 degrees for 15 minutes.
  8. Check to see if they are crispy and browned, if not set it for another 3 minutes.
  9. Air fry them to however browned you like them we like ours golden.
  10. For Oven Roasted Potatoes:
  11. Spread on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or heavy greased and oiled pan. (They won't stick to parchment)
  12. Pour the coated potatoes on the cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees until browned turning every 10 minutes.
  13. Check the potatoes with a fork to see they pierce easily.
  14. They take around 1 hour and if you leave the skins on and would like them even crunchier, broil them on high for 3 minutes watching carefully.
  15. For Pan Fried:
  16. Sprinkle all the seasoning ingredients (except for the oil)  into the boiled and drained potatoes.
  17. Saute the potatoes in canola oil or vegetable oil and fry them until golden brown.
  18. Note: if using shredded cheese sprinkled on top after cooking, the potatoes will be hot enough for it to melt slightly. Also, add the cooked meats, onions and peppers around 2 minutes just to heat up if using.
