This ham isn't the typical spicy type unless you want it to be, we have the option of adding the cloves, nutmeg, and ginger-flavored ham listed in the recipe card.
Our family isn't a fan of those flavors, however, feel free to add that if that's the flavors you remember growing up with on your dinner tables or Easter ham meals.
Mom used whole cloves, on her ham and the smell is wonderful but just a bit overwhelming in flavors to us, as they say to each their own.
The ham depending on the size cooks at around 20 minutes per pound, we use an instant-read thermometer to ensure it's cooked all the way through.
This glaze is delicious and has pineapple with maraschino cherries and lemon-lime soda, that's how my mom made this recipe.

Baked Ham with Pineapple Glaze Recipe
This glaze is made with pineapple, cherries, and soda. A sweet glaze for any style of ham and is baked perfectly with a sweet delicious coating.
Prep time: 10 MinCook time: 80 MinTotal time: 1 H & 30 M
Ingredients
- 1 (15.25 ounce) can chunk pineapple, drained with juice reserved
- 1 (4 ounces) jar maraschino cherries, drained
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 can lemon-lime soda
- 1 - 4 to 5 pound Whole Ham Butt or Shoulder Cut or a Spiral Cut Ham
- Optional: 1/4 teaspoon of each all ground: cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger (we are not fans of the spice seasoning on ham so we leave them out)
- Note For Whole Cloves and Glazed Ham:
- For a glazed ham with a pungent taste of whole cloves, you will need to add around 1/8 of a cup of whole cloves to the glaze recipe above and leave the other spices out. Reduce the glaze cooking time to 1 minute after it reaches a full boil. Pour over the ham and bake every 30 minutes.
Instructions
- Baked Ham Recipe:
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees and make sure if your ham is frozen you thaw it first in the refrigerator. (take it out 4 days before cooking to ensure it's completely thawed out).
- Place the ham in a roasting pan that will accommodate the ham and the glaze ingredients.
- Note: for easier cleanup line your pan with parchment paper.
- Before baking ham, place pineapple chunks on the ham and place cherries with pineapple all around the ham and adhere with toothpicks.
- Heat brown sugar-reserved pineapple juice and lemon-lime soda in a small pan.
- Mix and cook together for about around 5 minutes, or until mixture is thicker on medium heat.
- Pour half of this glaze over the ham and again the rest about every 15 minutes in the last hour of baking, until all is used.
- This keeps you from having to baste it, pouring it over the ham every 15 minutes is easier.
- The ham should be cooked as directions on the package instructions or the rule of thumb is 18 to 20 minutes per pound at 325 degrees, hope that helps! For exact doneness use an instant-read thermometer to check the internal temperature. This should read 140 degrees.
- Rest the ham for around 5 minutes.
- Slice the ham pour the juice and pineapple on the ham with cherries and serve.
